Week 9 to 10

Finally, after three years, it was possible to get back to Italy and particularly Rome during the past week – The Divine Word School of English has revisited Rome!  It was possible to meet some former students and, most importantly visit many of the Pontifical Universities and Collegios in Rome.  A very positive response from University Secretaries and Collegios.  Many thanks also to the former students who extended great hospitality.  Next Friday, March 17 is St Patrick’s Day and we are beginning our Irish Week tomorrow with a visit to the Stadium and Museum of Irish Sports and also the Irish Writers’ Museum.  All the very best Slán (Goodbye in Irish).

I am writing to send Christmas and end-of-year greetings to anybody who may visit this page from time to time. We are coming to the end of the first term of the 2013/2014 Academic Year and tomorrow we will have the last day of class in 2013.

We will finish class tomorrow with a prayer service during which we will remember by name all those who studied with us during the past year - we will be thinking of you all and hope that you will think of us from time to time.

Finally, very best wishes for a very Happy Christmas and New Year and every success to everybody in 2014.

Wishes from all of us currently here at the school (students and staff).

What has been happening in summer 2013 and news of radio broadcast mass. [More]
Jun 24, 2013

Tomorrow, Monday June 24 we are going to begin our summer programmes.  We will start with students from Spain, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Libya, The Czech Republic, Indonesia, Vietman, Germany, Poland and Russia.

Our Academic Year from September 2012 to earlier this month went well and we had a number of students doing external examinations such as Cambridge FCE and IELTS.

I always promise to keep the News page more up to date and I certainly will now have the possibility to prepare the monthly message.

Hello to old friends and hoping that we will have the opportunity to make new ones during the forthcoming weeks.  Please think of us during this busy time.

Another reason for making this contact now is that we have had a computer collapse and hope that it will be possible to get our files and information back.  Please try any means possible if you have difficulty getting an answer to any emails you send us.

Bye for now.

Your (lazy) correspondent.

Back again, we have been very busy since June 28, however, it is good to get back in touch.  We are now established in the second summer session - it will last until August 31, however, we will continue for some other weeks into September and then begin the 2012-2013 Academic Year on Monday October 1.

Two particular reasons for contacting you all now.  The first is to give some information about the summer; we feel that programmes have gone well so far - by the end of the summer courses we will have had students from 27 different nationalities study at the school.  Classes, electives, activities and students own work and study have kept everybody busy; the 20 hour per week programmes continue, Tuesday and Thursday elective classes, two activities per week and then also the presentations on Wednesday evenings.  Our weekend excursion in July was to Donegal and next weekend we will travel to Kerry from Friday 24 to Sunday 26.

A particular reason for posting a news item at this time is to inform you of an important event at the school. This event will take place this coming Sunday, August 19.  On that day the Irish national radio and television station, Radio Telifis Eireann (RTE) will broadcast the mass from the chapel of the Divine Word Missionaries community here in Maynooth.  If you can listen on your computer, you will have the opportunity of having the sensation of being here with us again - or for the first time!  For website addresses I would suggest you try www.rte.ie  it will be broadcast on the Radio 1 Extra channel.  I believe you can also get it during or after the broadcast on www.rte.ie/radio1/religion

Students have been practising enthusiastically for this important event and we all hope that everything goes well. Hopefully some of you will be able to listen in and have the feeling of being with us.

We also use this opportunity to let you know that we are continue to think of everybody who spent time at the school in the past.

All the best for now and hope to be back in touch in September.

First of all my sincere apologies for not being in contact with those visiting the website in recent months. I make a strong promise now to post a message on the News page of our website at least once a month. We will post the same message on our face-book page and invite facebook friends to add messages and pictures of recent activities. At any time it is possible for anybody visiting our page to request to have a picture removed.
